On Hold

I've enjoyed blogging these past couple of months. It's been a wonderful creative experience. I'm so grateful I got to try this again! However, some projects have come up that will take time away from writing future posts. I will put this blog on hold as of today. If this is the first post you've read, I invite you to check out and enjoy previous posts in which I share reflections on the art making process and the back story from a selection of paintings I've created these past few years. You can stay in touch and follow me on Instagram @ruthborgesart, and/or visit my artist Facebook Page at Ruth Borges, Visual Artist.

Artmaking is…

When you think of art making, what comes to mind? Childhood memories of creating pictures with pencils, crayons, markers, watercolors? Did you draw or paint? Where those creative sessions inspired by what you could see or what you could imagine? What was your favorite subject matter? From my preteen through teenage years, I used to draw people, faces, trees, flowers, burgers, ice cream, cake, birds, butterflies, and whatever else caught my eye. I drew mostly from my imagination, so these were stylized, meaning representational but not realistic. Blank spaces in my school notebooks would quickly become populated with plenty of little sketches and scribbles. My drawings were influenced by comic books and fashion model illustrations I saw in dressmaking pattern catalogues like McCall's, Simplicity, and Butterick. Sometimes I would draw from photos. I wrote a few illustrated short and funny stories. Well, last month I posted on Instagram a carousel on art making. After writing about the process and backstory of some of my art pieces on this blog, I thought I'd include this grouping of seven type and image designs I put together on the popular graphic design platform, Canva. Let me know in the comments what your thoughts are on art making. What inspires you? What materials and techniques you enjoy creating with or would like to learn to work with?
